Thriving 〰️ Abundant 〰️ Futures 〰️
In order to build thriving abundant futures we have to see it! We have to dream it. This Fireweed Ecosystem is our love letter to our ancestors, our declaration to our children, and our vision for Indigenous people.
We hold our hands up in gratitude to the The 5 R’s of Rematriation graphic co-created by Native Women Lead & The Future is Indigenous Women as inspiration.
-
Central to our ecosystem is the Fireweed plant itself. This represents the Indigenous entrepreneurs.
-
The roots are the culture, teachings, elders, ceremony, language that support the Indigenous entrepreneurs in their work.
-
Mycelium networks connect the Indigenous entrepreneurs together and create strength, protection, and resource sharing.
-
The pollinators support the spread of knowledge between entrepreneurs.
-
The thunderbirds are powerful beings featured in stories across a number of Indigenous cultures. They are often associated with ‘making it rain’. We believe there needs to be more Indigenous people in investment roles to support the flow of capital to Indigenous entrepreneurs.
-
Rain reprsenets the capital. This is varied in the form of grantors, Investors, AFIs, Banks, and otherwise.
-
The water basin is added to show the shift towards equitable distribution of capital as we aim to move away from traditional capitalistic tendencies of wealth hoarding.
-
Biodiversity of plants allows entrepreneurs to co-create and support each others growth. This is a metaphor for the support networks and mentorship of Indigenous & non-Indigenous people within the entrepreneurship ecosystem at large.
-
Clean air allows the suns nutrients to reach the fireweed. This is a metaphor for empowerment of entrepreneurs as well as the removal of unseen barriers.
